As we engaged with the youth of City Heights, UPAC (Uniting People Across Cultures) recognized the community's need for a secure meeting space. Taking it a step further, our team understood that these young individuals required opportunities for employment and the cultivation of lifelong career, interpersonal, and leadership abilities. They needed a nurturing environment where they could flourish and prosper.

Our mission is to offer a diverse range of impactful programs to the City Heights Community in San Diego. Through our collective efforts, we foster innovation, embrace diversity, promote cross-cultural understanding, and empower neighborhood self-sufficiency.
OUR STORY
Uplifting our community—one affordable meal, one job, one person at a time.
It all began with identifying a pressing need. Inspired by their work in City Heights, the UPAC team initiated a community hub focused on youth employment and skill development. Taking this vision to the City of San Diego, UPAC secured seed funding in 2018. Converting a 4,622 square-foot restaurant into a dynamic social enterprise, the Neighborhood Enterprise Center (NEC) was established, becoming a vibrant symbol of innovation. Today, we remain committed to fulfilling our mission by addressing the evolving needs of the local community through adaptive and creative programs.
Beyond offering entry-level jobs, we provide growth opportunities, including promotions, while allowing students the flexibility to continue their education.
As a social enterprise of UPAC in San Diego, the NEC operates under the umbrella of a 501(c)(3) organization.
